I am experiencing an issue with one of the USB-4 ports on my HP laptop. My laptop has two USB-4 ports, and while one functions normally, the other has stopped recognizing USB-2 devices.
Here are the details of the issue:
- The affected USB-4 port still charges the laptop and passes a video signal without any issues.
- However, it does not recognize USB-2 devices, whether connected directly or through a hub.
- USB-2 peripherals such as a mouse, keyboard, and other devices do not work when plugged into this port.
- The other USB-4 port functions correctly, recognizing all USB devices, including USB-2.
I have already tried basic troubleshooting steps such as checking Device Manager for driver issues, updating firmware, and testing multiple USB-2 devices, but the issue persists.

What are you using to connect USB Type-A devices to USB Type-C Gen4 Thunderbolt ports?

I've used direct connection (i.e. USB-C headphones) as well as Dell WD22TB4 dock that was able to pass power and video signal, as well as some unnamed USB-A to USB-C adapter from Amazon that I have laying around. All of these work with the other USB-4 port.
But I was about to post an update when I saw your question. I was able to fix the issue by reinstalling the AMD chipset driver (from https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/drivers.html/chipsets/laptop-chipsets/amd-ryzen-and-athlon-...). Uninstalled existing driver, installed chipset driver again, rebooted - and the USB-2 devices are working again. Hopefully this helps if anybody else runs into this issue.
Turned out that reinstalling the AMD chipset driver just "shifted" problem to another port. Now the usb-4 port at the corner does not work with usb-2 devices but works with power delivery and video signal while the port on the side works with everything. Prior to re-installing it was opposite.
