Hello dear community.
I'd like to slove this problem for good, and fast, this is getting annoying and stupid in my opinion.
I added a Toshiba 2 TB HDD, after procuring proper items to add it to laptop, Hard drive works well under Linux without disconnecting, unless at one moment intel rapid storage technology tells me it is disconencted and to a point it is not even reconized in linux. After reseating SATA cable, it reconizes again in Windows and Linux mint. However, as issues seem to presist in windows 10, i'd like to have it cleared there.
I should mention I installed vanilla windows 10 installed HP drivers for the laptop. Everything expect cooling application.
In intel storage rapid program, i disabled Link power mangement as it seemed to cause issues as well, and as searching that seemed to fix issues for most users. It seems not. Hard drive seems to disconnect when dowloading to it, at higher speeds and trying to write speed test it using crystal disk mark.
Drive no longer shows up in disk mangement. However sometimes when booting to linux drive becomes readable again or only readable in linux. Really fustraiting. As this problem has existed from start i ran SMART check on the drive as a new drive it passed with flying colours.
As SATA is a standard this should not be happening and i'd like to fix this issues as Hard drive space is needed and upgrading to a new larger NVME drive is out of the question as it's price point for a larger storage is too expensive.

"after procuring proper items to add it to laptop"...exactly what did you use? The SATA end connecting to the drive may be standard but the internal connection cable is not. What did you buy and where did you get it?

I bought the SATA cable, FRU L19172-001
I had to buy it over aliexpress, because spare parts avaliabilty is poor and searching for this FRU to be able to buy it proved pretty hard. And it was my only option as only other was a local wholesaler. FRU number I took from HP model's FRU list. So I did that part of the work. SATA cable and caddy should have been included with the computer as SSD is not large to avoid issues like this where parts needed to add a hard drive is nearly impossible due to parts.

HP does not include the cable and caddy unless you have a 2.5 inch disk from the factory. You have seen that and I am not going to defend the practice. Really hard to troubleshoot from a distance but one candidate is the aliexpress cable. Does it actually have an HP Part number on it or just represented as "compatible"

Hello. Sorry i got caught up with some work that needed. my time
What is typed on to the cable is G7A HD0
DD0G7AHD021
GDG 20180326
I could break out multimeter as well to check the pins on the cable. As i have a 2.5 hard drive that is a known good one, that i have because i replaced a hard drive of another older laptop wiitha larger one.I have had few Hard driver errors pop up on boot but it seems interesting as self test says ok and SMART test passes well, good.
