HP Pavilion Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP Pavilion Notebook 15 that is about 3 years old. A few months ago I started noticing a bulge under the keyboard which has gotten steadily gotten worse and I suspected the battery.

I ran the battery recall utility which said mine was not eligible which is unsettling as I found quite a lot of complaints of bulging batteries in many models of HP laptops!! A number of the posts on this forum said not to worry about bulging batteries but, when I opened the computer and found both cells of the batter were twice the size they should be, I was afraid the bulging keyboard could damage the screen when the laptop was closed or it could even start a fire or to leak.  The battery is removed and am running with just the AC cord for now.

The part # on the battery is 849909-850 / BP02XL (41Wh / 7.7V, mfg 07/2016) which I cannot find on the HP Parts website!! I've looked for a replacement but most of the prices are outrageous or so cheap that I wouldn't buy one anyway. How can we tell if it is a genuine HP product or a cheap clone? Is there any other way to get a genuine HP product? Any suggestions?

Thank you.
