Hi @Idris81,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Pavilion battery not charging, showing an amber light, and staying at 0% even after a hard reset. Let’s go through a few checks.

Before we proceed:
Is this the original HP charger, and does the laptop work normally while plugged in?

Meanwhile, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Check the Charger and Power Source

  • Plug the charger directly into a wall outlet.
  • Avoid extension cords or surge protectors.
  • Inspect the charger cable for damage.
  • Confirm the charging light turns on when plugged in.
  • If the laptop runs only while plugged in, continue below.

Step 2: Perform a Full Power Reset

  • Turn the laptop OFF.
  • Disconnect the charger.
  • If the battery is removable, remove it.
  • Hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reinsert the battery (if removable).
  • Plug in the charger and power ON.

If the battery is internal, just hold the power button 15 seconds with the charger disconnected.

Step 3: Check Battery Status in Windows

  • Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
  • Expand Batteries.
  • Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
  • Select Uninstall device.
  • Restart the laptop.
  • Windows will reinstall the battery driver automatically.

Step 4: Run HP Battery Test

  • Turn the laptop OFF.
  • Turn it ON and immediately tap F2 repeatedly.
  • Open HP Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Select Component Tests > Power > Battery.
  • Run the battery test.
  • If it shows “Replace” or “Weak,” the battery may have failed.

Step 5: Check for BIOS Update

  • Press Windows + R.
  • Type msinfo32 and press Enter.
  • Note BIOS version.
  • Compare with the latest version on the HP Support website.

If the battery stays at 0% and the HP test reports failure, the battery likely needs replacement. If the system works normally when plugged in but shuts off immediately when unplugged, this confirms battery failure.

I hope this helps.
