Dear all,

I bought HP Pavilion Plus 14-ew1012nl. I would like to use it with a docking station with external peripherals without need to open it. Could you please recommend me a compatible docking station? A functional power button on dock is crucial for me, so that I do not need to open the notebook to power it on. Maybe some feature like Wake-on-LAN would also works or me, but I do not see that option in BIOS. Will the power button on G5 docking station work with my Pavilion?

I understand you want to use your HP Pavilion Plus 14 with a docking station and power it on without opening the lid. Let’s go through a few points to check what is supported and what to expect.

Check the laptop series and firmware support
Pavilion models are consumer laptops and do not always support dock power-on features.
Dock power buttons usually require specific firmware found on HP business models.

Understand how dock power buttons work
The power button on HP docks sends a power-on signal through USB-C.
If the laptop firmware does not support this signal, the button will not turn the laptop on from a full shutdown.

Compatibility with HP USB-C Dock G5
The HP USB-C Dock G5 is electrically compatible for charging, display, USB, and network.
However, on Pavilion laptops, the dock power button typically does not power on the system when it is fully off.

Test behavior in sleep or hibernation
In many cases, the dock power button may wake the laptop from sleep or hibernate.
This depends on BIOS support and power state, not a guaranteed feature.

Check BIOS power and wake settings
Enter BIOS and look for options related to USB-C power, wake from USB, or wake from dock.
If Wake-on-LAN or USB wake options are missing, dock-based power-on will not work.

Lid-closed operation with a dock
You can use the laptop closed once it is powered on and docked.
External keyboard, mouse, display, Ethernet, and charging will function normally.

Practical expectation for Pavilion models
Docking stations will expand ports and charge the laptop reliably.
Powering on from a dock power button is generally not supported on Pavilion systems.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for the hint. No such option in BIOS, so no luck.
