Pavilion X360 14+dh0014no
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP Pavilion X360 14-dh series and I have an issue with the lid closing not making the computer sleep.

The settings in Windows are verified, I did a power reset, am on the latest BIOS etc, but it seems like a hardware issue.

I was wondering if anyone knows where that sensor is located?
I looked in the repair manual and there is no mention of it, only about the g-sensor.

I tried to go around with a magnet without succes and looked at the power button board - it doesn't seem to be the one.
Perhaps the adapter power board?

I would be happy to try replacing the part if I'm sure the sensor is on there.

Thanks for any help

Welcome to HP support community.

Please follow the methods mentioned below:

Method 1: Follow the steps:

  1. Press Windows Key + X.

  2. Select on Control Panel.

  3. Click on Power Options.  On the left, click on "Choose what closing the lid does".  Click on the drop down menu for "When I close the lid" and choose "Sleep" or "Hibernate.

Method 2: I suggest you to run in-built Power troubleshooter and check. Follow the steps:

  1. Press Windows Key + X.
  2. Click on Control Panel.
  3. Select Troubleshooting on the left pane, click on View All.
  4. Click on Power to run the troubleshooter.

Method 3: If the above method doesn’t help, I would suggest you to reset and restore all of the default Power Plans back with their default settings. Follow the steps.

  1. Press Windows Key + X.
  2. Select Command Prompt (Admin).
  3. At the command prompt, type powercfg -restoredefaultschemes, and then press ENTER.
  4. At the command prompt, type exit to exit the Command Prompt window.
  5. Restart the computer and check with the issue.

I hope that helps.

Hi,

Thank you for your answer.

For as far that I wasn't clear about it, I tried everything software wise. I tried what you described, including a hard reset.

I'm basically sure that this is a hardware problem, the lid switch is not being detected as closed - I verified that in Linux by polling the sensor and logging it while opening and closing the lid.

I would like to know where the lid sensor is and what it takes to make it work, it's not in the repair manual and I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

Is it in the power switch board? Thanks

The sensor is on the top of the display bezel.

Refer page no.60 in this HP service manual for more information:- Click here

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

I hope that helps.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply and reference.

The link doesn't seem to exist but I found the manual.
It mentions the gravity sensor on page 60, is that board where the lid sensor is placed too?
I'm wondering if that's the part I need to order in that case?

I followed your instructions, but I am kind of stuck at the part where to choose a country and options.

I have the country at the bottom and when I login I can choose a WhatsApp, Community support, partner support or phonecall or Vrtual agent, none of which I want. Is there no email contact option like with Dell? The machine has warranty, but some liquid may have been spilled on it, so it may be void, not sure how they deal with that. I like to have some confirmation of that the g-sensor board has the lid sensor and perhaps some way to test it so I know how to proceed.

Thank you!

Hi,

I was able to make a case number and call.
The support representative explained options for support.

He was not able to tell me where the sensor was exactly and pointed to the repair manual, which doesn't say either.

It would still be great to have that confirmed.

Thank you

If you have accidental damage protection, the liquid spill will be covered under warranty, if you don't have the added protection plan or as we call it a care pack, you will be charged to have the device repaired.

since you have trouble contacting HP phone, send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from and I'll get you the help you need.

hi,

I think I don't have that kind of protection, I don't see it at the support site anyway.

What I would simply like to know is what part has that lid sensor and how viable would a DIY change of it be.

I love this machine, it's taking 32gb ram, is very fast and pleasant to use, just want my lid close to work :).

And glad to contribute, thank you.
Would love to see an answer to my original question still.

You know, it's these kind of experiences that determine if someone will buy a product another time or not...

I think the Pavilion x360 14 hit a sweetspot for 2-in-1 pc's with the 2 ram slots, only Dell has it, nobody else.

But it has to be fixable when broken :)....

Cheers

Hi, I sent a PM but got no reply. No reply here either, quite disappointing.
I bought a Dell Inspiron 5000 series instead, which has it's own quirks (like modern sleep) but fortunately that is fixable on Ubuntu Linux. At least it has USB-c with charging, a thing that even the latest 10th gen Pavilion X360 doesn have.
If HP wants to keep up, it would be good to have a bit more of info where needed and support Ubuntu Linux on laptop models.
I know it has been like that in the past.
I'm looking forward to seeing budget models that are best in market that come with USB-c charging, Linux support and reliable machines.
