Pavilion dm-4 Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

So I have a HP dm-4 3000 series notebook which I brought preowned. I run windows 10 on it, even though the HP drivers have only been updated to windows 8 and everything works super-fine. Its fast and I haven't run into any problems as of yet. I have upgraded the hard drive to an SSD and I have 12GB of ram.

None of that might be relivant but its helpful to know I guess...

ANYWAY! I have a lot of trouble connecting to the wifi if I am any more than 4 meters away from the internet router. So I thought I'd update the Wireless Card. I currently have an intel n-2000 or what ever (cant remember without opening the laptop) and I did my research and came to the conclusion that I would try the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 and from furoms I've read etc, many HP users have has some luck with this card. I just assumed that the chances of it being whitelisted or whatever was very slim, but I guess not... aha

When I put in the new card it told me that WLAN was not supported, halt and restart. I was not able to bypass this.
I did some looking and I guess my laptop must be blacklisted?? I am not too sure... I tried to update my BIOS but the newest BIOS availible on the HP support page for my model is already installed... Baring in mind that update is from 2014 or something silly like that.

Would anyone by able to help me or give me some advice? I really want this wifi card to work or even if someone can give me a really good compatible wireless card, I would be so greatful!

Thank you

I sent back the WiFi card I brought and instead brought an Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 because it is in the manual for my laptop.

Again this one isn’t working and when I phoned HP, they told me to buy the card that comes with the laptop which isn’t really what I want in turns of performance.

He eventually confirmed that the N-6300 should be compatible but it’s still not working as I said and I am getting the same error message “wireless module not supported. System Halted, please remove device and restart. WLAN Module ID (702)”

I don’t know what to do. I run windows 10, so would that effect it? I doubt it but I need help.
