Pavilion DM1Z-2000
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My "new" (used) Pavilion DM1Z-2000 came with 64-bit windows. When I attempt to download software like Java or Skype then I get 32-bit versions. I'm assuming the laptop or Windows 7 Home Premium reports 32-bit but computer is 64-bit. Why is this? I think this was slowing down my laptop SUBSTANTIALY.

Hi:

If you know you are running W7 x64 on your notebook, you have to manually select the 64 bit download option for many programs.

I don't know if Skype has a purely 64 bit version, but I know that Java does.

Why is it so hard to believe that a software vendor assumes 32-bit rather than looking at windows version? This would clearly not be in their interest. Obviously a 64-bit install reports an error on a 32-bit system. Java.com does not even ask, so I have to assume they have access to system information, otherwise they would ask whether system is 32-bit or 64. Or Oracle is brain dead? Hard to believe.
