That model does not have fixed switchable graphics.
There is no BIOS setting to set which g GPU will be the default GPU.
This is the only way to configure the switchable graphics in that model notebook and it has to be running W7 64 bit with the correct HP Intel AMD switchable graphics driver installed for that model notebook.

According to the parts list, the PC comes with a motherboard that has the AMD Radeon HD 6550 GPU with 1 GB of graphics memory.
System Board DSC with 6550/1G Duo W SUB 1.2 Graphics

did not know they had a large menory on the video
as Dell has their memory as a card you can replace up to 512MB
So this is like the ASUS they also have 1GB of Memory for a video card
Now on the touchpad it seems hard to press can that be the touchpad connections are waering out
I do have the correct driver and the settings have been changed still same probem
also I guess the Intel i5 M520 is the highest this will take
Thank you for the information
Have a Nice Day

You're very welcome.
The HP notebooks have the graphics adapter/memory as integral parts of the motherboard.
There is no removable/upgradable graphics card.
The only negative thing about buying those vintage HP notebooks is you can only run Windows 7 on the notebooks that come with the Intel/AMD switchable graphics like the dv7-4287cl, because they used custom switchable graphics drivers which cannot be updated nor can the individual Intel or AMD graphics drivers be installed.
So if someone installs W10 on the notebook, the graphics won't work correctly and there is no fix.
You have a nice day too.

So these are like the ASUS N61JV it also has a Intel and AMD Video but like you said you can not switch between them as I guess with the ASUS it I think switchs itself when it needs the (Maybe I am wrong) the power of what you are doing
They must have been a short life trial

Yes, that is what I am referring to.
There are two types of switchable graphics...fixed and dynamic.
If the notebook has fixed switchable graphics, the user can go into the BIOS and set the GPU they want to use as the default.
If the notebook has dynamic switchable graphics, the switch is automatic based on the demand placed on the GPU with the Intel GPU always being the primary GPU, and there are no settings in the BIOS to change that.
Always buy dv7-4000, 5000 and 6000 model series with just the onboard Intel graphics or if an AMD processor, just the onboard AMD graphics if you want to run W10.
