I have the seized screen hinge issue that so many others have complained about. I see there is an entire thread about this issue.
The laptop was purchased in 2012. It doesn't travel just sits on a desk and hasn't ever been abused or dropped. Shortly after the warranty expired, I started having trouble with the left hinge. Then the right hinge seized. The problem has progressively gotten worse and the metal and plastic body of the computer is literally separating just from the weight of the screen while the laptop is open. Fortunately, the screen still works. I don't even dare shut it anymore for fear of what may happen, though. After two years with this problem, I finally decided to do some research and found that this is an obvious design defect with this HP model and a number of others. It appears that others have had their laptop repaired even out of warranty. I am very disappointed.
I am posting this in the hopes that someone can help me get this problem fixed through HP. The computer is otherwise in good working order, but the screen hinge/separating body issue is a real problem and I had hoped to have this computer for another year or two.
Very disappointed...
