Good Morning,
I purchased the HP Pavilion x360 - 15-br158cl this weekend. I was trying to use a USB Type C dongle that I had laying around to see if I can test it out. Whenever I plug it in, after 5-10 seconds i get the error, "USB device not recognized."
I went into Device Manager and it states under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and device that says "Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed)." While the device is still plugged in, it will make the disconnect sound (after about 3 secondds) and then it will connect again with the "USB Device not recognized" message. This becomes a repeated cycle.
Interestingly enough, the dongle which has USB Type C male (for computer port) and USB C female, HDMI, and USB 3.0 was able to access my USB 3.0 thumb drive (even with the device going through its issue) without a problem. Even when the device appeared to disconnect, the USB Thumb drive connected to it seemed to state accessible.
Another thing I'd like to add, is that my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 doesn't have any issues when connected to the port via usb c to usb c cable. I also tried 2 different dongles. One was an apple USB Type C dongle, and the other was from Amazon. The one from Amazon is my main one that I use with the Nintendo Switch and Note 9 without issues.
I would like to know if anyone else has experienced similar behavior with the USB Type C dongle and if so, what was your solution?
I'm thinking there may possibly be an issue with the device having USB 3.1 Type C Gen 1 versus the newer Gen 2. May be a stretch but would just like to get some clarity. Thanks for any assistance!

Hello @Mr_Cee24,
My suggestion would be that there may be a conflict that arises with the USB-C port and the hub due to the hardware limitations. The Nintendo Switch and Galaxy Note 9, very nice devices btw, are meant to transfer data, output video, and be charged all through the USB-C port. However, the USB-C port on the HP Pavilion x360 - 15-br158cl is only meant for data transfer.
Therefore, the computer ultimately has issues with a hub which offers an HDMI port but the USB 3 port works completely fine. I have seen some people on this forum talk about how their computer consistently alerts the user of a USB recognition issue when they attempt to plug in a USB-C to HDMI adapter using the data transfer only port. Just my assumption.
Best regards,
Eddy

Hello @Mr_Cee24,
That should work. 🙂
Just note that the hub advertises PowerDelivery, or passthrough charging to the host computer through USB-C, which is not available on your computer. The rest of the ports that are meant for data transfer should all work.
Best regards,
Eddy
