I have a Hp Pro Book 4540s with a i3 cpu.

I tried to upgrade the RAM from 4gb to 16gb (2x8GB).

It only recgonizes 8GB.

Is there anything I could do to have the full 16gb.

BIOS only recgonizes also 8GB. They are the same chips with the same specs.

I checked intel arc, and both i3 models hp sold in the laptop a max of 16GB DDR3 RAM across 2 channels  i3-2370m and i3-2350m.

To diagnose a dead ram slot or stick, try all possible combinations:

Stick A in Slot A

Stick A in Slot B

Stick B in Slot A

Stick B in Slot B

It may well be that you got a dead stick from the factory.

EDIT:  According the same HP documentation, the 4540s only supports 8GB RAM in a 1x8192MB or 2x4096MB SODIMMs configuration. You are only able to use 1x8GB stick because this is all the motherboard supports.

Hi, @korr3ia

As, F311d0wn replied earlier, you have an issue with the memory or the memory slot.

The notebook will support 2 x 8 GB of memory, but you have to apply a workaround to get the memory to work without slowing down the PC.
