Suddenly, my laptop will not connect to my router via wifi.  When I connect a cable, it will work ok.   Does that mean I need a new adapter and if so, which one would be appropriate>   Thanks

Considering the generation that your laptop belongs to, I suggest purchasing a USB external WIFI adapter.

In my own opinion, It really isn't worth taking the risk of opening the laptop unless you happen to be an PC or laptop enthusiast.

Just plug the USB external WIFI adapter  into one of the faster USB 3.0 SS ports on your laptop.

The OEM WIFI adapter yours has is one of those in the list below.

From the Maintenance & Service guide for your laptop model series

    Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi Adapter
● Realtek RTL8723BE 802.11b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi + BT4.0 Combo Adapter
● Realtek RTL8723BE bgn 1x1 + BT 4 LE PCIe+USB NGFF 2230 M.2
● Broadcom 943228 abgn 2x2 + BT 4 LE PCIe+USB NGFF 2230

Many thanks for your reply.  I have opened the WiFi slot on the base but not made any attempt to move it.  Just checked the wire was attached ok and there was no dust or obstruction.

Will do as you say and get a USB adapter which is the easier option.

Thanks again

I purchased an adapter as you, Erico, suggested but cannot get it to connect.  Should I be doing something simple to get it to work?

Ive disabled the old card in Device Manager and tried new drivers but am told it already has the most up to date.

I havenot unplugged the card for obvious reasons that I dont particularly want to disturb the innards of the laptop.

The Ethernet works fine but is not very convenient of course.

Is there anything else I can try???

Which brand and model WiFi adapter did you purchase?

Did you check to see if it is compatible with the installed operating  system?

I really don't see an answer to my question in your last reply.  How about reading it again.
