Hey, i have this old hp probook 640 g1 laying around here, it has an i5-4300M processor and i wanted upgrade to i7-4712MQ is it possible?

Page 98 of the following manual shows you a list (For Intel processors)

It also shows you how to replace.

I see, i think i checked this manual as well, but i did some research and saw some people commenting that not all 640 g1 models could be upgraded to i7-4712mq or i7-4800mq as some can only be upgraded to dual core ones like i7-4610m or i7-4600m I'm not really sure why.

 

I've heard it was something to do with the motherboard chipset either HM87 or QM87.

Usually the ones i see in benchmarks with these 4 core version of i7 have a different motherboard than mine21321.jpg

mine is HP 2101 Motherboard as you can see on the first post.

I just want to be sure so i don't waste on the wrong processor, could you please clear that out?
