Hello all. I am a graphic UX/UI designer and I have chosen to buy the following latop:

HP Victus Gaming Laptop, 15.6 Inch FHD Display 144Hz

at Amazon.

I would like to ask the following questions:

  • can I upgrade the memory and up to what size. How many memory slots does it have?
  • does this support docking station and which one should I choose.

Thanks speak you soon.

Marina

The HP specs indicate the notebook comes with 1 x 16 GB of memory, so there should be an empty slot in which you can install a second 16 GB memory chip.

If for some reason, the specs are incorrect in that the notebook comes with 2 x 8 GB of memory for the 16 GB total, then you can remove one of the 8 GB chips and install a 16 GB chip and have 24 GB of memory running in single channel mode.

24 GB of memory in single channel mode would probably be better than 16 GB in dual channel mode but 32 GB in dual channel mode would be best.

And if the specs are indeed correct, you just need to add a single 16 GB DDR4-3200 CL22 memory chip in the empty slot.

Hi, Marina:

Below is the link to the service manual for the model series.

Maintenance and Service Guide Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC Model number: 15-fa2xxx

According to chapter 1 of the manual the notebook supports 2 x 8 GB of DDR4-3200 memory.

But that can't be right because the HP product specs indicates the PC comes with 1 x 16 GB of DDR4-3200 memory in one slot, which means at a minimum, you should be able to install a 16 GB memory chip in the empty slot.

The Crucial memory report for the model series indicates it can support up to 2 x 32 GB of memory.

Thank you very much for your reply.

Could you please help me clarify some RAM upgrade specifications? The laptop comes with 1 x 16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM by default. I have read it has two RAM slots and I want to know:

  • Can I add 1 x 16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM stick to the second slot to have a total of 32 GB RAM?

  • What is the maximum memory supported by this laptop model? Is it 32 GB or can it go up to 64 GB (2 x 32 GB)?

  • Does the laptop support dual channel memory if sizes between slots differ, or should the RAM sticks be identical for best performance?

Also, I want to understand if this laptop supports docking stations (USB-C possibly) and if there are recommended models to use.

Thanks

You're very welcome.

The memory will run in dual channel mode if you install it in matching capacities...2 x 16 GB, 2 x 32 GB, for example.

As I wrote earlier, I am assuming the PC will support at least 32 GB of memory if only one 16 GB chip is installed.

Otherwise, what would the purpose of the second slot be, and if a 16 GB memory chip can work in one slot, it can work in two slots.

Crucial indicates the model series can support 2 x 32 GB of memory.

There is no official HP documentation of that specification.

Docking stations:  The notebook should be able to support a USB-C docking station looking at the USB-C port specifications in chapter 1 and chapter 2 of the service manual I posted.

I don't know much about docking stations to be able to recommend one to you, and suggest you start a new discussion on that.

There are HP USB-C docks for sale.  You would have to find one that meets your needs.

One more question about upgrade possibilities:

If the laptop comes with 8 GB RAM by default, can I add a 16 GB RAM stick in the second slot to have a total of 24 GB RAM from the start? Or would it be better to replace the 8 GB stick with a 16 GB one first, and later add another 16 GB RAM stick for a total of 32 GB?

Also, will mixing these different sized sticks (8 GB + 16 GB) affect performance or compatibility?

Thank you!

Something last that I forgot to ask you.  I live in Greece and I buy this laptop from Germany what will happen with my warranty and if I face any problem?

Also can you give me the link to crucial that I can find the RAM ?

You're very welcome, Marina.

That is a very good question, and I do not believe that I have good news for you regarding the warranty coverage.

Since the model you want to buy is sold and supported for use in Germany/Austria, and you want to use the notebook in Greece, there would be no warranty coverage because the exact same model has to be sold and supported for use in Greece, and that model is not.

HP notebooks sold in Greece will have a model number ending with 'nv.'

This would be the equivalent model sold in Greece which would have a warranty for use in Greece:

Victus Gaming Laptop 15-fa2700nv | HP® Ελλάδα

Below is the link to the HP global warranty terms:

Global Limited Warranty and Technical Support

This statement is on the bottom of page 1:

"Under the HP Global Limited Warranty program, products purchased in one country/region may be transferred to another country/region, where HP or its authorized service providers offer warranty service for the same product model number, without voiding the warranty."

I gave you the link to the Crucial EU memory page in my first reply.

Thank you you save my life I will finally buy it from Greece to be safe.

I am trying to find also answers from Perplexity and see what is happening with the RAM..16 GB DDR4 SO-DIMM.

Can I also expand it?

Thanks
