Good day everyone. I have a 'HP Laptop' Model: HP 15-bs289wm and I am in need of a new battery. I realise it wasn't keeping the charge anymore. I have had it since summer 2019 and last year it showed a significant decrease in battery life. About a month ago even when it was fully charged it would shut off at 62% then it started shutting off at 80% and most recently it started shutting off within the 90s percent. At this moment in time it shows that it's charging but will stay at 12% or 15% for about an hour and then it starts to increase little by little. If it happens to go all the way to 100% and you UNPLUG THE charger the computer shuts off immediately which I presume, means the battery cells are no longer holding charge/life span is over.
Fast Forward to today. Just now I was trying to find a replacement online and it's very tedious. I want a genuine HP battery and the only one I have found so far has a higher rating than the battery that came with the laptop. The original battery that came with the laptop has a rating of 3-cell, 31 Wh Li-ion while the one I found online has a rating of 41.6Wh 14.6V. Based on what I read on the website, they claim it will work and shows the same battery model (JC03 and part number HP 919681-421) as the original one that came with the laptop. I would feel more comfortable getting the same exact 3-cell, 31 Wh Li-ion that came with the laptop. I just can't seem to find it anywhere though.
Would the 41.6Wh 14.6V version cause any problems? Seeing that it has a higher Wh rating does that mean it will last longer before needing to charge? Can anybody direct me to the original 3-cell, 31 Wh battery? I was searching for it here on HP.com but it seems impossible to find. I can't seem to find the genuine one on Amazon either. I need this battery as soon as possible. I look forward to your feedback from this great community.

Here are the part number batteries listed as compatible with that whole model series:
4-cell, 41-Whr, 2.8-Ah Li-ion battery 919701-850
3-cell, 31-Whr, 2.8-Ah Li-ion battery 919700-850
919700-851
Either the 4-cell or 3-cell will work but the 3-cells are not really being offered much any more for the reason you have already surmised. The 4-cell will last longer in use for obvious reasons...more cells to store more power. This is an external clip-in battery of the kind you do not see any more so it will 100% attach to your laptop and work. Might be a bit thicker and therefore elevate the rear of the laptop a bit when flat on a table but that is a good thing. HP will no longer stock this battery so you need to get it from a 3rd party vendor and this one has a very good feedback record on eBay and the price is good. However, the seller says he excludes the Caribbean. If you need me to, I will try to find you a battery from a seller who will ship to Jamaica.

Thank you very much and I truly appreciate your help and effort. I have a contact in the US who I can have it shipped to then I will get it shipped to my country thereafter. For the record here is the link to the store that states there battery as genuine.

I would not pay $90US for this battery. Sellers do offer genuine HP product for much less:
The compatible batteries are made in the same factories that make the genuine ones and are often more recently manufactured. But if you insist on genuine product I understand. Its getting harder to identify..."genuine" no longer necessarily means "authentic original" which is a shame.

Thank you for your response. I agree US$90 seems very high for a battery even for a laptop. The merchant who's selling the battery for $90 says that the generic batteries only last for 6 months while theirs last between 3-5 years...I read that in the fine print on their website. In all honesty though I think I will go with the second link you sent me in your last reply. Thanks again. I will keep you posted.
