Anyone who owns this laptop has already reported it, and they seem to be facing the same issue with the newer Spectre's as well.
I was using my laptop and the screen went black and motherboard is now burnt! FOR THE SECOND TIME!! IN A YEAR with BARELY ANY PROCESSING!!! IT'S MOST DEFINITELY A MAJOR DEFECT that STILL NEEDS ADDRESSING APPARENTLY? I'm apalled!
There has been a burning smell lingering around the device but I would've never guessed they were heating issues as my notebook is fairly new and under used. The first time I faced a problem was after 6 months into purchasing the product. It was overheating without any processing at all and the charging port went out. I gave it to the authorised HP service centre in my area but the problem resurfaced after 10 days of getting it back from repair. I started getting more and more errors because of the over heating.
It seems WAY more than a usage issue at this point reading all the SAME problems from VARIED users and needs to be recalled as soon as possible.
My notebook is a year old. The motherboard burns up right after the warranty expires for anyone and everyone and that's more than a suspicion or even an accusation at this point. It's the matter of a lot of facts and a major safety concern that needs addressing from HP asap!!! I hadn't used any softwares or download any to begin with. Just checking emails shouldn't have affected the motherboard at all, especially if needs to compete with the rest of it's competitors of the same range.
It is my opinion this should be a factory recall. Due to the possibility of extreme heat, perhaps a consumer protection issue.
"This was supposed to be their Macbook-busting flagship machine." says a friend on this forum and I feel the same way right now. If ANY BODY on the other hand is human and willing to help, please know this motherboard is the surest shot of burning HP customers down and literally as well!
I am not even surprised by the total lack of concern that HP has showed to SO SO MANY PEOPLE FACING THE SAME MANUFACTURING DEFECT, not to mention their neglect to absolve themselves of any responsibility for what is obviously a design flaw in this VERY expensive laptop to have such mediocre issues, and not be dealt with.
I expect a satisfactory resolution to this, and am posting in the hope, that if anyone is considering a purchase of this magnitude, they might read it first and think again before buying from HP if this problem persists.

Incidentally I am here for the same issue, dead motherboard. The more I look into this I can't help think HP are building these laptops for planned obsolescence.
Sorry to hear about your issue, I will follow this topic, I'm interested to see what HP are doing about this. Please update if you speak with them on the phone.
Good luck.

I purchased a HP Spectre x360, a limited edition touchscreen laptop that was rose colored and loved it. So portable and convenient. Last week it completely died. Would not turn on. The power button had been finicky in the past and engaging the computer when it was on sleep/stand-by was sometimes slow as well. But this day it would not turn on. Brought it to a local computer repair shop who opened it up and said that the motherboard caught on fire. So of course it would not turn on and also damaged the hard drive. This was purchased in December 2018, so not even 3.5 years old. It was always on a elevated and vented platform to not overheat. I'm extremely frustrated that at 3.5 years the computer was "toast"! HP makes it also extremely hard to even notify them and complain about this since it's out of warranty. I spent a lot of money on this limited edition laptop. Since the computer is fried, there's no fixing it, but wanted to make them and others aware of this. Clearly it has been an issue based on others in the HP community and yet we are all out of money and no computer for what seems like a known problem. Has HP resolved this for anyone in the community?
