HP Spectre x360 16 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 16-aa0000 (7M3L2AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I purchased HP Spectre 16 2-in-1 2024 model (32gb RAM and 1TB SSD, NVIDIA 4050) on September 11, 2024.I started seeing problems in just 2 days.

It is very slow and turns warm with just basic tasks.  With such specs why is it slow? I just opened up to 10 windows of Firefox and a word doc. it gets warm on the right side. left side is normal.  I switched from Balanced to Performance mode in the system control section of HP app. it didn't still help.

could someone please suggest if there is any setting to be made to help solve these issues?

Hi @kamalrajkumar,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Spectre x360 16-inch 2-in-1 laptop with such high specs (32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, NVIDIA RTX 4050) is slow and heating up with basic tasks. There are a few things you can try to identify and resolve the issue.

1. Update Drivers and BIOS

  • HP Support Assistant: Ensure your system's drivers (especially GPU and chipset) and BIOS are up to date. You can use HP Support Assistant to check for updates.
  • NVIDIA Drivers: Go to NVIDIA's website to download the latest drivers for the RTX 4050. This can often resolve performance issues if the graphics drivers are out-of-date.

2. Monitor Task Manager

  • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to see what processes are consuming CPU, memory, and disk resources.
  • Sometimes background apps or Windows updates may cause high resource usage.

3. Disable Unnecessary Startup Programs

  • In Task Manager, go to the Startup tab and disable any unnecessary programs from starting automatically.

4. Thermal Throttling Check

  • Overheating on the right side suggests that the GPU or CPU might be experiencing thermal throttling.
  • Normal operating temperatures for CPUs and GPUs should stay below 90°C during basic tasks. If it's higher, it could cause slow performance.

5. Check Power Settings

  • Even in Performance Mode, check the detailed settings under Control Panel > Power Options. Make sure the Minimum processor state is set to a reasonable value (around 5-10%) and Maximum processor state is at 100%.
  • Balanced Mode might be better for regular tasks, but ensure it is configured correctly.

6. Adjust Graphics Settings

  • If Firefox or other apps are set to use the NVIDIA GPU instead of integrated graphics, it can cause higher power consumption and heat. You can adjust which apps use the dedicated GPU in NVIDIA Control Panel under Manage 3D Settings.

7. Clean Install of Windows

  • If the system is new and continues to perform slowly, a clean installation of Windows 11 might help. Sometimes bloatware or unwanted background processes can slow down a new machine.

8. Hardware Issues
