Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?

I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Let's perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant:

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

And, also run BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
    • It did happen after een upgrade of Windows 10 home to Windows 10 Enterprise.
  • Have you made any hardware/software change
    • See above, other changes did not happen.

The firmware that is running is F.32  out of the box, it looks like that this is the newest one because the HP  support site only have F.22 or F.27 available.

Which element of the BIOS of sytem driver is responsible for the HP Command  Center to work properly. Does it communicate with the UEFI BIOS or with Windows 10 Power Options?

I am running Windows 10 build 1903

@Alphaxe
The BIOS menu is the place to go to adjust the fan speed and system settings,

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Command centre app?

If your experiencing system overheating issue or fan not functioning normally then refer to this Article "Reducing Heat Inside the Laptop to Prevent Overheating"

And, also click here to know more on "Understanding other menu options"

Keep me posted

I checked the BIOS and have no options to adjust the fan speed with BIOS versie F.32.
There is no newer BIOS version available on the HP support site, there you only can download an BIOS version F.27 or F.22
The laptop is delivered with BIOS version F.32, that is what I know because an rollback of the BIOS to an previous versio I only have the option to choose F.32.

I did uninstall several times the HP Command Centre App from within the Microsoft Store but unfortunately this did not help.

The article about "Reducing Heat Inside the Laptop to Prevent Overheating"  I have read. But for an laptop that is new and 4 weeks old this could not be the problem and I am working in clean Office environments.

Can you find out if there are support problems of HP Command Centre and the Spectre X360 13-ap0450 with BIOS F.32.

Hope to get an reply

I did go through the product spec and found out that there is no support problem with this computer HP Spectre X360 13-ap0450.

Let's try reinstalling the Windows operating system which will bring back the original system software and drivers. Click here to Perform a System Recovery (Windows 10) also this way the latest BIOS will be installed what is currently available.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I can try to reinstall no problem but need to plan this.

In meantime I was investigating this issue further and find out when powercable is not connected the system is decreasing CPU Cores (Tool CPUID HW Monitor), when power cable connected it speed up fans rapidly while the power mode is still on Best Battery Live (low consumption\power mode). The CPU cores are going to maximum available Power.

I also noticed that the HP command center software thermal profiles are suddenly working agian, I did not do anything for get it working again.

The option that I miss at this moment is the Quit Mode so that the system goes on low resource mode. Can you check if this is available for my laptop  Spectre X360 13-ap0450?

This looks like the Quit Mode is not available for this model.

Remember to change the setting after HP Command Center has been uninstalled:

  1. Re-install HP Command Center from the Microsoft Store: https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9P92N00QV14J
  2. Open the HP Command Center.
  3. Select Thermal Profiles.
  4. Click Learn more...
  5. Switch CoolSense to Off.

Keep me posted for further assistance.

The option for CoolSense is not available.

But I must say after that the HP Command Center en thermal profiles are available for HP Recommended, Performance and Comfort the system is handling the fan better, but still not optimal.

The extra thing I did after that HP Command Center was displaying the system information again and also keep the setting in the profile selection saved the fan was still continuing running fast and loud. I decided to have a look in the UEFI BIOS again if there is an setting to turn Intel Processor Turbo Boost technology  on or off but there wasn't. The positive thing I noticed is that after leaving the UEFI bios without changing something I came back in Windows with an silent system very low fan sound from time to time and not again at full speed with Power cable connected and without.

The next day it also went better, still the system fan run faster and louder from time to time when PowerCable is connected, but most of the time low or with accepted speed and noise.  I read that when powercable is connected that Intel Processor Turbo boost technology is on. On battery level it goes automatically off or less aggressive and within an minute the fans slow down and are not hearable almost.

An other method the let the system work on an more lower performance profile is to set PowerMode and Battery mode in best battery live. My experience is that HP command center needs to work good, else the fan noise are not resolved.

When set it to best battery live and you unplug the PowerCable the system is running on low profile and the fans slowing down.

The downside is that when cable plugged in I cannot force to Intel Processor Turbo boost technology off when powercable is connected. Als within HP command center there is not an profile "quite mode".

This investigation did not bring an perfect step to step guide how to get everything working well or if this can help others to bring an solution but for me the system fans are working a lot better when the performance are needed or not.

Hopefully the community is helped with this explanation.
