Spectre x360 15-ch0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I noticed that the edges of the base of the laptop were separating from the top. I opened the base following the video instructions found your website and discovered the battery was swollen and pushing out the bottom as I feared.

So far my contacts with customer support have been very dissatisfying. I cannot even find a replacement battery on your parts website! All I can find by Googling are replacements from vendors and manufacturers I've never heard of.

That is besides the fact that, as can be seen searching this board, this is not an uncommon problem for these laptops but these batteries are not under recall like those of similar models, and HP said I would have to pay for it out of warranty (100 something days out of warranty).

Is it really not possible to get a replacement battery from HP for this laptop? Why won't HP acknowledge the safety hazard posed by defective, potentially explosive batteries and cover the repair?

A lot needs to be said here. Any Lithium ion battery can swell. It does not mean it is going to explode. However, a swelling battery is destructive and needs to be removed as you have already figured out. HP stops selling replacement batteries fairly early in the lifecycle of the product as HP is not really in the replacement battery business. Most replacement batteries are purchased on vendor websites and you can find original HP logoed batteries and 3rd party batteries, which are not bad products if you purchase from a Prime, reputable vendor. These batteries are often made by the same companies that also make OEM logoed batteries for HP, Dell, Lenovo etc.

This is the battery you need:

(20) Battery (6-cell, 84–WHr, 3.64Ah, Li-ion 928372-855

I confirmed with my own search this battery is not in stock in the HP Parts Store.

This is a high volume seller with thousands of transactions. It is an original logoed HP battery. If you want me to help you find a less expensive but reliable third party battery I am happy to help there, as well.

I am also going to escalate this to HP itself to see if additional assistance is available for you. Good luck.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
