Spectre x360 15-df0002na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My new spectre making a sharp cracking noise. Is like that straight out of the box. The noise is coming from HDMI side fan when I keep the laptop in a specific position (tablet mode with hinges down, or just turn like 45 degrees toward the hinges by lifting one side of it)

It is fine in any other position no cracking noise if I use as a normal laptop or I turn into tablet mode and I use it sitting on a  desk, or I turn in tent mode with hinges up.

So I guess something like a label or heat isolator foil is loose and touching sometimes the fan when the gravity moves it towards the fan.

Sound like something easy to fix by removing the back cover and inspecting it and sticking it back where it should be stuck, but I don't want to risk my warranty by removing the bottom cover.

What do you think can I do that?

Hello @RobiGoBH,

The rules are a bit complicated but normally opening up the cover to inspect internals, or swap out a few parts shouldn't void warranty. However, damaging the parts during this process will most definitely not be covered under the standard warranty.

If you want, the bottom cover removal procedure starts here.

My suggestion would be to first contact HP. I personally wouldn't risk such a brand new computer and try to "fix" a problem yourself. Better safe than sorry.

Best regards,

Eddy

Thank you @EddyK

Bloody hell, I need to remove the  rubber foot strips to remove the back cover, that is not a service friendly design 😞  Makes me worrying to not be able to stick them back perfectly 😞
