HP Spectre x360 catch on fire part2

Spectre X360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-Bit)

Need help..

i bought less than two years ago for over 1300$ an HP Spectre x360 13-4103dx and I noticed few days back that the computer doesn’t lay flat on my desk and the keyboard started warping towards me.

looks like the battery is expanding...

i got worried that the battery would  reach a point where it could potentially burst and because of the acid present in the battery in contact with other components could potentially catch on fire or worst explode.

I called HP customer service and they told me that it is a mechanic flaw in the battery, but because not many have reported this problem thy have issued no recall to Resolve this problem.

They told me that I can send the computer in repair but all the cost was on me... or they could sell me the battery for 138$...and then find an authorized repair shop and get it replaced... probably 250$ more...

is this what you get from HP when you buy their  “premium product” ?

I fly nationally and overseas and the computer is with me all the time ,  I had the computer with me during my last trip and it was already warped, at the check in at the airport they don’t verify the integrity of the laptop, what if it burst while Is in the air???

i started getting worried as my 12 years old daughter as the same model and also hers started warping.

if someone from HP wants to reply to this please do it so everyone is aware of the risk.

Please advise

thank you

Message received from HP customer service was:

the cost of the repair start at 350$ you have to pay... we are not responsible for a flaw in the design of the battery and that’s it.

My advise to you:

don buy HP product anymore move to a different brand

They sell bad product and they are not willing to help.

be aware of the risk ... the battery can potentially explode on you or your family.

Hi,

This is from HP document:

"

Swollen batteries should be replaced and disposed of properly for functional reasons but they do not present a safety issue. When replacing the swollen battery do not dispose of the swollen battery in general household waste. Follow the local laws and regulations in your area for battery disposal. HP encourages customers to recycle rechargeable batteries. For more information about recycling programs, see the HP website at http://www.hp.com/recycle.
Although swollen batteries generally do not pose a safety issue, HP recommends that they should be replaced. For batteries still under warranty contact HP support to order a replacement. For batteries no longer under warranty contact HP to purchase a replacement.
If the battery is inaccessible please contact HP support or an Authorized HP Service Provider to have the battery replaced.
About cell swelling and causes
Cell swelling is a condition that may occur with polymer cells used in some notebook batteries. Polymer cells are popular in the industry where thin cell design is desired.
Polymer cells may swell if they are damaged, mistreated, or as a result of the manufacturing process. Swelling can result from prolonged low voltage, exposure to high temperatures, cell imbalance and more.
Swelling may also occur when a battery failure condition is detected by internal safety devices. The disabled battery may experience swelling in this state due to the internal safety circuit allowing the cells to discharge to a safe low voltage state.
Preventing the issue
Proper care and maintenance of the batteries can prevent swelling. Please refer to this document for information on caring for batteries so as to minimize the possibility of occurrence of the issue: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01297640."

I have flagged the post, so someone might help.

David
