Common problems for Battery

HP Spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop an Hp Spectre x360 is completely dead and won’t charge. Yesterday it was working fine, ran out of battery and I plugged it in. It wouldn’t charge at all. I switched outlets and then plugged something else into the outlet to confirm it worked—it did. I used my brothers charger which worked perfectly well on his computer and it still didn’t work. So it’s not a problem with the outlet or charger. I tried a hard reset, I tried taking the battery out and putting it back in, I tried all the tips online and it’s still not working. Then I looked it up and it turns out this is a big common problem with this line of computers and that other people found that the motherboard died. This laptop is less than 2 years old. No parts should be dying. This is clearly a defect of HO Spectres. I need a repair or a new computer ASAP.

You likely just need a new battery.

Observations

HP will not replace your out-of-warranty computer for want of a battery.

HP will not repair an out-of-warranty computer for a battery that should be replaced by the owner / consumer.

The Exception to that, of course, is if the battery is on a Recall List.

What to do?

Two years is not a long time - it is long enough for you to need to replace the battery.

What you already know, have tried...

"All the tips" include the Diagnostics, of course.

That result has likely confirmed the battery status for you.

I apreciaste the detailed response. However, I don’t want to pay for a new battery if it turns out it is a defective motherboard. Considering many people describe the exact same problem and the problem wasn’t with the battery, I’m hesitant. Some of those  people were also out of warranty but hp replaced the faulty parts. Also I’ve never had to replace a computer battery after 1.5 years before. That still strikes me as the manufacturer not doing their due diligence. I might buy a new battery and see.

OK, you are welcome.

I never argue with points of opinion.  Smiling.

The answer aside (Replace the battery), anything else must be sorted with HP.

Thank you for your help though. I might replace the battery and see if that works. Do you know the contact number for HP? I couldn’t find it anywhere on the website only this forum.

You can certainly try to contact HP Support and submit a case.

Due to the incredible strain on the in-care resources, Out-of-Warranty submissions might circle you back to "here" (us).

I realize you are unhappy - the truth is that is is likely just a dead battery and nothing damaged or nefarious going on.

Batteries can last for years, or (frequently) they last about as long as the warranty - or they can die within warranty.

I could be completely wrong, of course:  The underlying cause of the failed battery could be something sinister (a different hardware failure).

I've put in the request for review - if an agent responds, you can plead your case for free repair.

Hang in there.

Stay Safe.
