HP Stream 14
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have only used this glorified paperweight twice. Once it needed an update, it says it doesn't have room to update. Absolutely nothing has been saved on this device. It was only ever used to stream Netflix, 2 times. Why would a company make a piece of garbage like this? If it cannot even update straight from the box and be useable what is the point?

I can't provide any kind of OFFICIAL answer to your question -- but I can provide some comments and suggestions that might help.

As to the reason for the device, at the time, HP was looking for a very cheap entry-level netbook that would sell in huge numbers.  The idea was to produce a simple laptop that could rival the Chromebooks and be used for pretty much the same things -- web browsing and e-mail.  Doesn't take much power or disk space for either of these, so a low powered netbook with very little disk space would fit the bill.

Then things changed -- and not for the better.

MS started pushing out really big updates on a frequent basis and was not cleaning up after themselves. Didn't take long until the tiny 32GB EMMC "drive" was full and would not handle anymore updates.

MS also established the semi-annual Feature Update cycles which also took LOTS of disk space and once again, it did not take long to fill up the tiny "drive".

This became so much of a problem that one of our leading Experts wrote a tutorial about how to deal with this issue:  https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Stream14/m-p/7919568#M61643...

In addition, for more routine updates, I have assembled the following links which provide tools and information for cleaning up the PC after updates and recovering some of the disk space:

Also, the community Win10 Forums has the following suggestions:

Finally, there is a freeware app known as Wise Disk Cleaner. I use it every day to get rid of junk files: https://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-disk-cleaner.html

I know these do not SOLVE the issue, but maybe they will help enough to make the laptop usable again.
