Could it be that a MacBook Air can brick an HP Thunderbolt Dock G2?
Here is what happened:
I connected a 2020 MacBook Air to an HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 in the office. Everything worked as expected.
Then I plugged in my HP 840 G5 and it no longer found the dock, saying "USB-C device not recognised".
I reconnected the MacBook and could not find the dock either.
I unplugged the dock and restarted the HP 840 & MacBook. Still no luck.
Curious, took another Thunderbolt Dock G2, same thing. Works with the MBA once and then nothing.
Sure, an MBA is not on HP's compatibility list, but this is rather unexpected.
I think the Thunderbolt controller has a major problem. Is there any way to reset the dock other than unplugging it?

See the specifications and compatibility list for the HP Thunderbolt Dock G2.

There are no MacBook Air or otherwise on the compatibility list for an HP Thunderbolt Dock G2.
I am not surprised that the Dock was bricked.
I hope you did not damage the MacBook Air.

Thunderbolt is a standard protocol, so no device was damaged - I'd be surprised if it was!
The dock should not be damaged either, and I doubt it should be possible to brick it. Are there any methods of resetting the dock?

A device which has corrupt firmware, be it laptop or dock or video card is as good as damaged because it has lost its usefulness.
You can try resetting it by running the Dock's firmware with admin privileges.
Good luck!

Not going to work since it is not being recongnised on any device (I tried).
I am searching for a hardware reset...
It does not seem to be documented in the public available docs, but that doesn't mean there isn't any.
There are other brands that have those features in their docks, e.g. pressing on/off button for x-seconds (I tried that as well).
