HP All-in-One Desktop PC 24-cb0000i (3B8A1AV)

Suddenly the HP inbuilt True Vision camera will not launch when using video apps such as skype, facebook messenger. I can see and hear the other person, have audio but black screen not showing myself. I have run troubleshooting and reset but still not working. I note that when you doubleclick the camera device in device manager it says usb video device but I do not have a usb camera plugged in.

Hi @KayB166,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and fix the issue with your HP True Vision camera not working.

Check Device Manager:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Look for "Imaging devices" or "Cameras."
  • Ensure there are no warning symbols (yellow triangles or red crosses) next to the camera device.

Update Camera Driver:

  • In Device Manager, right-click the camera (likely listed as "USB Video Device") and select "Update driver."
  • Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software."
  • If an update is found, install it and restart your computer.

Reinstall Camera Driver:

  • In Device Manager, right-click the camera and select "Uninstall device."
  • Confirm any prompts to uninstall.
  • Restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the camera driver.

Check Camera Privacy Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera.
  • Ensure that the toggle for "Allow apps to access your camera" is turned on.
  • Scroll down and make sure the specific apps (Skype, Facebook Messenger, etc.) have permission to access the camera.

Windows Camera App Test:

  • Open the Camera app from the Start menu.
  • Check if the camera works in the Camera app.
  • If it works here, the issue might be with the specific apps.

Check App Permissions:

  • For apps like Skype or Messenger, go to their settings and ensure the camera is selected and permissions are granted.
  • Restart the apps after changing the settings.

Run Windows Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Find and run the "Hardware and Devices" troubleshooter.
  • Follow the prompts to see if Windows can identify and fix the issue.

HP Support Assistant:

  • Open the HP Support Assistant.
  • Check for any updates or diagnostics available for your system and camera.
  • Install any updates and follow any recommendations provided by the tool.

BIOS Update:

  • Sometimes, a BIOS update can fix hardware issues.
  • Visit the HP Support website, find your specific model, and check if there is a BIOS update available.
  • Follow the instructions provided by HP to update your BIOS.

Test on Another Application:

  • Install another video conferencing application (like Zoom) to see if the camera works there.
  • This can help determine if the issue is specific to certain apps or more general.

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, it could be a hardware problem with the camera itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
