Hi,
In the last week my webcam doesn't work. The only reason I noticed is because I could no longer log in by facial recognition.
I checked that I have all the latest updates for windows and the camera driver.
My windows and drivers all up to date.
Regards,
Janice

Hi @Janice110,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here are steps to troubleshoot the webcam issue on your HP Envy x360 2-in-1.
Check Webcam Privacy Settings
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
- Ensure the camera access toggle is On for both the device and apps that need it.
Test Camera in Camera App
- Open the Camera app by searching for it in the Start menu.
- If it shows an error or doesn’t work, note the error message (e.g., “Camera not found”).
Check Device Manager
- Press Win + X and choose Device Manager.
- Expand Cameras or Imaging Devices.
- If your webcam appears, right-click and select Update Driver > Search Automatically.
- If it shows with a yellow triangle, right-click and select Properties > General. Check the device status for errors.
- If the camera isn’t listed, scan for hardware changes:
- Click Action > Scan for hardware changes.
Disable and Re-enable the Camera
- In Device Manager, right-click the camera and select Disable Device. Wait a few seconds, then enable it again.
Roll Back Driver
- In Device Manager, double-click the webcam.
- Go to the Driver tab and select Roll Back Driver (if the option is available).
Check Windows Biometric Settings
- Since facial recognition isn’t working, confirm Windows Hello is configured:
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in Options.
- Check if Facial Recognition (Windows Hello) is still enabled.
- Reconfigure if needed.

Reset/Reinstall the Camera Driver
- In Device Manager, right-click your webcam and select Uninstall Device.
- Restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
Update the BIOS
- Go to the HP Support website and search for your laptop model.
- Check if there’s a BIOS update available and install it.
HP Support Assistant
- Use the HP Support Assistant tool to automatically check for updates or issues.
Check Webcam Hardware
- Ensure no physical switch or cover is blocking the webcam.
- Verify it isn’t disabled via function keys (Fn + F key, usually with a camera icon).
Run the HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Restart the PC and press F2 repeatedly at startup to access the diagnostics menu.
- Select Component Tests > Webcam Test.
Factory Reset Windows Hello Settings
- Remove facial recognition from Sign-in Options and re-register your face.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
