I have a HP lapetop expansion base that is used to allow the use of a keyboard and mouse The expansion cable plugs in to the computer. Ihave had thisfor years but my present computer does not have an input for the expansion cable so I cannot use unit was wondering if their is a adapter for newer laptops

OK, so it sounds like this is a "dock" of some sort. The older docks had connectors on the top that mated with large slots on the bottom of the laptops. The newer ones generally have only USB cables or connectors. I'm not personally familiar with other docking connectors, so I don't know if any adapter is available or will work.
