Hello,
My HP Laptop product name is: Pavilion dv6 6121se
with [Personal Information Removed]
I want to update Bios for installing a newer fresh copy of windows 10 64bit 2021 on my system.
My laptop information in system info:
OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise 1909 Build 18363.1379
Already Bios version is: F.1B 10/5/2011
BIOS Mode is: Legacy
H.D.D type is: MBR
Secure Boot State Unsupported
My laptop issue is when windows start, is take long time to boot up and windows performance is slow, so i go to HP software and driver support page and select windows 7 64bit to show my all drivers.
In Bios(2) tab when i click+ it's show :
HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) F.1B Rev. A 5.0 MB Oct 31, 2011
that i download and install it before.
in Bios-Tools (1) when i click+ it's show:
HP BIOS Update UEFI 2.3.0.0 Rev. A 1.2 MB Mar 30, 2011
My question is can i download and install this bios update UEFI for my laptop?
could it upgrade my Legacy Bios mode to UEFI ?
i want to install windows 10 in UEFI mode in GPT H.D.D instead Legacy mode in MBR H.D.D. for use full possibilities of windows 10.
please help me.
Thank you very much
Best Regards,
F.Jamshidi

hi
Up to you
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-dv6-6100-entertainment-notebook-pc-series/5082212/m...
you have bios updates here indeed, only under windows 7
I do not have the specifications page for this model
but it is likely that this does not change much depending on the components of this model
Not to mention the risk of a failed flash!
the latest windows 10 update does not suit many models

Before attempting to update the bios, which as I indicated can be risky, and it might not change anything ..
consider other solutions.
Your computer obviously only has 4 GB of memory, for Windows 10 this is the bare minimum!
Maybe you can install more than that!
prefer to wait until the update is proposed, use an earlier version instead

Hi,
Thank you for replying me.
It's good idea to wait for new bios update, but considering the last update for 2011, i'm not sure to comes new one any more.
On the other hand i think that UEFI update is probably right for me. because listed for my laptop model specifically and the release date for 2011.
If there is any proof about that and my doubt disappears, i install it.
Thank you.

HP is not producing BIOS updates anymore for the DV6s. The last one was 2011 and it worked only under Windows 7. It will not run under Windows 10. That is the situation.

Hi wawood !!
Thanks for replying my question,
Yes, the bios update is for 2011, but in the bios update page for dv6 model 6121se, there is BIOS-TOOLS in second line, that's for UEFI update. it's for 2011 and win 7 version too.
I already have win10 installed on my dv6,
we know win10 run faster and better in UEFI installation type instead Bios.
please go here to see:
please click + and read Description & Fix and enhancements section.
Can i install win 7 then upgrade Bios to UEFI used above BIOS-TOOLS, then reinstall win10 with UEFI mode?
because i think bios update is firmware and it's stay in laptop hardware, even if windows changed or reinstall.
Please let me know if i thinking correctly and what solution you think about it.
Thanks a lot.

You should certainly be able to install Win7, do the BIOS update, and then reinstall Win10.
But I don't know about the UEFI tools -- my DV6 does not have them and I have not used them.

it's up to you, but as I have already indicated, you only have 4 GB of RAM
I assume classic original sata hard drive ...
So before we hit the bios, which probably won't change the speed of the computer excessively.
Check if you can install more 4gb memory under Windows 10, this is the bare minimum!
If you can replace the hard drive with a SATA SSD, you can boost your computer too!
