NOTEBOOK 15DB1016CY
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Have a notebook 15db1016cy with backlit keyboard.  Have to press F5 each time I bootup to enable the backlit keyboard feature.  Is there any way in the registry or a batch command, run at bootup, that will enable this feature without having to press F5 to enable it?  Do not mind if the light times out, just so the feature is always on.

Hello, If I understand you want to automatically active your backlight at Windows startup??

You can try this:

https://www.techjunkie.com/how-to-enable-your-keyboard-backlight-in-windows-10/

You can also go to your BIOS, for this restart your PC and taping F10 when your PC is turned off, for check if you have in option for this.

Thank you for the help, but Windows Mobility Center does not contain any option for keyboard. As for putting in model number and  Enable Keyboard Backlight Windows 10 into google, it listed this question under HP.com.  Also found in HP.COM it said to go into BIOS and select ADVANCE in the top line, which doesn't exist.  I called HP support and they could not understand what I wanted, just said it was done to increase battery life.   ???????????

Hello, that can increase your battery life but not more if you active manually your backlight after startup 😉

If effect in few models it is in the BIOS, but for your PC I don't know.. I don't find other options.. Have you updated your drivers with HP Support Assistant (except the BIOS)?

I don't see the difference, If I  hit F5 each time I boot or the feature is always on.  No matter which happens the light will go out after 30 seconds.  The only thing I'm going to do is wear out the F5 button sooner if I have to turn it on each time.

As for BIOS,  the ADVANCE FEATURE does not show up when I get into BIOS as reported in some of the answers I found.

There must be some way to replicate the F5 command.  I bet there are a number of people who would like to have this feature on so they don't have to press F5 each time on startup.

Will look into "HP Support Assistant" updates.

Hello, I have not been understand the light is going down about 30 secondes.. I believed you just don't have backlight after reboot..

Please tell me if you have always the problem after updates.

Nothing to do with updates.  It was that everytime I booted up, I would have to press F5 to enable the backlit feature.  I didn't care if the lights went out after 30 seconds of non use, they would come back on as soon as the keyboard was touched.

I ran the Hp Support Assistant, there were four updates, Bluetooth, Audio, Diagnostics and Graphics.  Updated and to my surprise I do not have to press F5 to enable backlit feature when I boot up, it's now on every time I boot up.  Wierd thing is that non of the 4 updates had anything to do with the keyboard  based on the way the updates were listed.   I did expand each one and the Diagnostics said "additional support is provided for updating and managing system bios and other device firmware on the system".  This is the one I think may have made a change to always alow the feature to stay on, on every bootup once the F5 had been pressed.

Thanks for for your help.

It only lasted for a few boots.  Back to pressing F5 to turn the backlite feature on.  I check Bios and still no way to access that feature.  Why don't they allow the user to control the fealture.  Other models of HP, that I see on google, let the user control it.  Will go back to Dell for my next PC.
