DDR 3 ram doesn't fit. What ram does it take??

This is an old machine and it uses DDR2 RAM, not DDR3 RAM that why DDR3 RAM won't fit. Please use the following compatible RAM

What is your   HP provision dv4 ?  Please use the following instructions to find out the model/product of your machine:


        https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824


Please do NOT post its Serial number (s/n).

 

It is a laptop/notebook and RAM for desktops won't physically fit.
