HP spectre x360 14 (14-ea0023dx) charging port smoking. Spontaneous while working on laptop and then connecting to the corner port. Immediately started to smoke, I disconnected. Did not appear to affect performance (ie scree stayed on, mouse input appeared intact, etc.); however did not look into further and powered off.
No new changes, No "accidents". From recollection, port has appeared "loose" but not grossly abnormal. Did not attempt to use other USB ports. Power supply is intact, able to charge other electronics/phone/other laptop without issue.
I have searched and have seen several posts on other models without definitive outcomes.
Looking for assistance in options including repair. There was a previous post of USB port known to be an issue but again did not see resolution. I have attempted to use HP support contact without much luck, even in reaching actual human support.
Thanks

Is your laptop still in its free one year factory warranty period?
If it is, start a warranty repair claim. Start at the Warranty & Repair section at the HP support portal at the link below.
If not, find a repair shop capable of component level repair. I provided a link to one in northern California.
Clearly the port has a short and may even need repair of the traces on the system board.

Thanks for the reply.
No, the laptop is NOT under warranty. No extended warranty was previously purchased.
I did take it to a few local repair shops. Initial diagnostics apparently found USB port short with several capacitors burnt out. Still unclear of apparent cause. No shop would go further with repair (ie extent of damage, costs, etc.).
This is my 2nd HP Spectre x360 (previous gen and this). Very unsatisfied with reliability. Will probably not purchase any further HP products in the future.
