For the last few weeks my laptop has been intermittently not charging, when the power adapter is plugged in. Sometimes when I take it out and plug it in again several times it will start charging but if I move the laptop it will stop charging again. I've seen many posts on this forum and elsewhere about this issue and it seems very common, caused by an issue with the motherboard. Does anyone have any ideas about what I can do? Thanks

That actually sounds more like you may have damaged the DC input connetor on the charger or at the notebook where it plugs in.
A change when the notebook is moved makes me suspect an intermittent connection.
Try wiggling the connection gently to see if there is a change in the charge/not charging status.
Is the notebook still in warranty?

How about identifying the notebook with a product name or product number?
Look on the bottom of the notebook in the tiny print for the ProdID. Post it here in your next reply to your thread.
The ProdID is the same as the product number that we need to determine the hardware configuration of your notebook.
Does the power LED light up when it is connected and the notebook is turned off?

What you own, for future reference, is an HP Spectre x360 - 13-4009na ultrabook. That is its product name.
At the following suport page for your notebook, run the battery check and then go throught the entire no power or no boot troubleshooting.

Hi
The battery test was OK and the troubleshooting didn't solve the issue. I tried a different charger and it still wasn't recognised.
I noticed once when the laptop was recognising the charger that when I wiggled the cable it stopped recognising it - does this mean it's the power adapter port?
Thanks

That is quite likely. The DC Power Jack is an inexpensive part, so the repair shouldn't be very expensive. It is a modular part which plugs into the system board.
The HP part number is 801513-001.
The Service & Maintenence Guide. The part is on page 17 of the guide.

Thank you.
Is there an official HP source where I can get the part? The HP parts store page I found doesn't load.
I called HP customer service and was quoted £150 for the repair, which I feel is very steep considering it's a very expensive laptop so I would have expected it to last longer without breaking. Will try and replace the part myself.

You can find an online vendor. Just do a Google search with HP+ the part number. They sell for $12-35.00 USD.
