Hello..

I have a HP v210w 32Gb USB Flash Drive.

I was copying some stuff on it and suddenly it stoped working!!
I've tried to open it but it says that the partition is not accessible and the media is write protected!!

I've tried to format it but that didn't work !! it said that the disk is write protected !!

Untitled0011.jpg

I thought it was damaged 😞 😞 but when I opened the Disk Management, it was in there healthy and active !

I tried to use "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool", and it detected it, but wasn't able to format it

I tried also to use partitions programs such as "MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional Edition" and "EaseUS Partition Master" and they detect it as a Healthy and Active drive! and I can delete it's drive and recreate it but nothing happens after I apply changes !!

I'm having it just 8 months ago 😞 😞

Hello Meleha,

Try this to see if it helps.

Go to
http://www.pny.com.tw/index.php?cls=2&mode=download

This fixes HP usb drives that have the Read Only problem (cannot write to the usb because it says its Read Only).

The USB Flash Driver Format Tool (Ufix-II) is said to be the most successful fix of the two programs.

You might need 7-Zip installed to extract the .rar file if Windows cannot open it.  It's a free program.

http://www.7-zip.org/

Your going to extract "RecoverTool_V2.00.42_M1223 8CE.exe" from the downloaded file and run.

thanx alot!!

It worked very well

but it's capacity has become 30 GB only, but doesn't matter..

thanx again 🙂

I'm glad to hear it worked for you.

The capacaty to 30 GB is normal. All drives are not the initial size quoted after they are formatted. The formating uses up some of the space.

Dive protected USB drive. Is that right?

Thank you for sharing the issue details. I would like to help you.

I suggest you try the steps below and check if that helps solve the issue.

With your USB drive plugged in, launch a command prompt. Do this by searching for cmd.exe in the Start menu (or Start screen in Windows 8,10)

NOTE: you may need to run Cmd.exe with administrator privileges if you see an “access is denied” message.

  • To do that, right-click on the shortcut and choose Run as administrator. In Windows 8, simply choose Command prompt (admin).
  • Now, type the following, pressing Enter after each command:
  • Type the command “diskpart
  • Type the command “list disk
  • select disk x (where x is the number of your USB flash drive – use the capacity to work out which one it is)
  • Type the command “attributes disk clear readonly
  • Type the command “clean.
  • create partition primary
  • Type the command “format fs=fat32” (you can swap fat32 for NTFS if you only need to use the drive with Windows computers)
  • Type the command “exit

Hope this helps. Let me know for more.

Happy posting.

DISKPART> attributes disk clear readonly

Disk attributes cleared successfully.

See the System Event Log for more information.
