HP Notebook - 14s-dk0028au

Hi

I would like to know what SSD specs i should be looking for so as to replace my current 128GB SSD with a 1TB SSD.

i bought a Crucial 1TB PCIe 3.0 NVMe M.2 which seems to have the same spec wording as the HP 512GB  "HP L53824-001 - 512GB PCIe NVMe Gen 3.0 x4 QLC NAND M.2 NGFF (2280)". but after installing it in the laptop & then triying to install win10, firstly win10 couldn't see the drive and then after i got & ran the device driver for the Crucial, Win10 said the drive was incompatible with the hardware!!

I'm happy to purchase another drive but am now totally confused as to what i should be looking for.

Can anyone help me?

thanks in advance.

Hi, @moose11

I recommend the Western Digital Blue SA510 M.2 SATA SSD in a storage capacity that meets your needs and budget.

Can you specify the full model number of the Crucial M.2 SSD you tried to install? Do you also have a mechanical hard drive installed? Did the 512 gig HP SSD you describe work in the laptop or what is the point of the comparison as the laptop originally came with a 128 gig SATA M.2 SSD. An M.2 NVME SSD should work as I think you already know.

Hi, @Huffer

Only SATA M.2 SSD's are supported in the HP notebooks with the AMD A4-9125 processors.

NVMe SSD's are only supported in the notebooks with the A9, Athlon and Ryzen processors.

Unfortunately, that breakdown is not spelled out in the manual.

@Paul_Tikkanen thanks for clarifying. So @moose11 it's simple the NVME is not compatible with your specific system

so then on a separate note...how much ram can i put in my notebook 8GB or 16GB?
(i know there's only 1 slot & theoretically i could solder another connection in the empty slot location)

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates that 1 x 8 GB of memory is supported.

I have heard that some people have installed a 16 GB memory chip in notebooks with the same processor as your notebook and reported that works fine.

But I wouldn't try a 16 GB chip unless you would be able to return it if it didn't work.

Hi Paul

Just to tie things off...

i installed an ADATA SU650 1TB M2 SATA3 SSD - that is working fine.

i also installed a CRUCIAL 16GB DDR4 SODIMM board - that is also working fine

so thanks again for your assistance
