Hello everyone,

As the title say, i have a problem with some keys on my keyboard on the HP15-bs183nd laptop.

It's bothering me now for a couple weeks, as i have allready tried some methods in a attempt to fix this issue.

However with no positive results, and i also have to point out that the malfunction is only temporary and it comes back everytime i boot the laptop. Then after a minute of 5 it works fine again, but even while working it happens very occasionally.

What i allready have tried:

- Reinstalled keyboard drivers

- Cleaned the dust beneath the keys

- Ran the keyboard check in HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows

- Updated all my drivers including BIOS

- Performed a hard reset

- Checked if the flat cable for the keyboard was properly connected

None of the above methods worked, and simply restarting the laptop didn't fixed it either.

Some details of the keyboard i have:

CNY P/N.:HPM16M63U4-698

Compal P/N.: PK132043A01

HPM16M6

Driver: i8042prt.sys

I hope someone could help me on this one, if it's fixable by software it would be great as i use the laptop alot.

Welcome to HP forums, I see that certain key in your keyboard is not working.

  • Did you drop liquid or have any accidents with the keyboard?
  • When was the last time it worked without this issue?
  • Did you check with an alternate user account or an external keyboard to check if all the keys on that work?

I recommend the below steps:

  • Clean the keyboard with compressed air (blow compressed air in the gaps between keys). This removes some lint and dust.
  • Shut down the laptop, remove the battery and cable for a moment, press and hold the start button for 60 seconds

  • Replace the battery, restart the notebook,

Let me know how it goes.

Hi Sandy,

So far i know there was no liquid in any form involved in this malfunction. I have checked with an external keyboard and this just works fine. I have used some compressed air to clean out any possible filth beneath the keys but this sadly didn't fixed the problem, but i'll give it a 2nd try when i get home. The problem started like a month ago, on a random moment.

I'll follow your suggested steps when i get home, then i report back here.

Hello Sandy,

I tried cleaning the affected keys once more, but sadly it didn't help. I also resetted the laptop, restarted it, let it to rest but this didn't change anything. I ran the HP diagnostics program again and i noticed i forgot to mention some keys which don't work either, which are: Insert, F8, F1, 7 (on the numpad) and / (on the numpad).

The error code i received was: M8FC88-93U9A5-XD7W21-G1NX13

Warranty is valid for a couple months..
