Hi there!

My notebook is HP Compaq 6730s. I will upgrade my Core 2 Duo T5870 to a T9400, already checked the data sheet and this is the fastest CPU supported for my model.

Was just wondering if there is a guide or step by step how to disassembly and upgrade it. I have seen videos on youtube on models 6735s and 6830, but I am not sure if I need for example to take the display, harddrive and DVD drive out...

Can someone help me?

Thanks

Erik

Hi, Erik:

Other than the service manual at the link below, I do not know of any other reference material.

See chapter 4.

Also, read the BIOS release notes...there is one for F.13 that adds support for Intel Core 2 processors, and you may need to have that BIOS or newer installed in order to max out the processor.

Hi:

The HP Probook 6730s is a business notebook and is not the same model as a dv6700.

Below are the specs for the notebook being upgraded...

Hi Paul!

Very helpful post, thank you very much. I definitely must my BIOS upgrade... I still have the F.06 from 2008. My question is: I am using Windows 8.1 and the supported OS are up to Win7. Do you think I can run the upgrade anyway?

Many thanks again.

Erik

Just or the information, I have installed the new BIOS in Win8.1 pro without any problems.

Thanks for the links again, Paul!

You're very welcome, Erik.

You took a big chance there upgrading the BIOS using W8.1.

Lucky for you the Windows based flash worked!

I would have bet $10 it would have bricked your notebook.

I had a speedy heart and the "roaller coaster" sensation in my stomach but after all all went well. For the next cases (if they come), you know it works... 🙂

LOL!  :generic:

I get that feeling everytime I do a BIOS update--even under the optimum conditions.

really!

by the way: I will not install the "new" CPU by myself... I don't feel secure to unmount everything and also removing and installing the thermal paste. I have seen videos on youtube but it is not for me.
