Hi @CrystalCAN,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the alpha keys on your HP laptop are not working, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow:

1. Restart Your Laptop

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches.

2. Check for Physical Obstructions

  • Inspect the keyboard for any debris or dirt under the keys. Use compressed air to blow out any particles that may be obstructing the keys.

3. Update Keyboard Drivers

  • Device Manager:
    1. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
    2. Expand the Keyboards section.
    3. Right-click on your keyboard device and select Update driver.
    4. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

4. Check Keyboard Settings

  • Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language. Ensure the correct language and keyboard layout are selected.

5. Test in Safe Mode

  • Boot your laptop into Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. If the keyboard works in Safe Mode, it could indicate a software conflict.

6. Run Keyboard Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
  • Select Keyboard and run the troubleshooter to identify and fix issues.

7. External Keyboard Test

  • Connect an external USB keyboard to your laptop. If it works, the issue may be with the laptop's internal keyboard.

8. Check for Software Issues

  • If you recently installed new software or updates, consider rolling back those changes to see if it resolves the keyboard issue.

9. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Power off the laptop, remove the battery (if removable), and unplug it. Hold the power button for 15-20 seconds, then reconnect everything and power it back on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
