Pavilion gaming, model 15-ak000nj

Hello everyone!

Today I was asked by HP support assistant to reboot my PC due to an update, probably (didn't go in to the software to see the reason) and after my PC just cannot do anything, I cannot go into setting in any way (tried all of the tips through the microsoft website) it's just painted grey and isn't pressable, Google Chrome and Edge keeps crashing, my antivirus (Avast) cannot run and when I contacted HP telephone support, they could not help me because my warranty has expired (bought it in 2015).

It worked great until this update and I'd ra ther not spend money in the lab for trying to fix it and wondered maybe there's a solution before I'll do a factory reset, which I would like to be my last option.

Any help would be very appeiciated! Thank you.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Apologize for the inconvenience caused, this sounds like software related issue and this could be fixed by reinstall windows OS operating system. I would suggest please perform a factory reset as per your convenience and keep me posted on the results.

Thank you for answering, first of all!

I did try to do the factory reset and ended up with the notebook on BIOS mode telling me that the boot failed (3F0) and it didn't recognise the OS that came with the PC (windows 8.1).

After touring forums for hours and using a working friend's PC, I managed to install windows again and did a factory reset successfully, using the Microsoft Windows 10 tool on a USB.

I do have to note that I won't be using the HP Support Assistant software anymore since it was the source of the problem to begin with.

Thanks again for answering my post, all the best 🙂
