I've just had my x360 returned from a warranty repair stating "your Unit Has Been Returned Unrepaired" !! with the reason being "Unit not covered for hinge issue" which I find unbelievable.

The device has a hairline fracture on the top casing about 1 inch from the left hand hinge and it is slowly growing. I conmtacted HP support and was told it was 'user damage'. There is no damage the laptop has never been dropped and only used in a home environment and only by myself. There is no other flaw with the device - everything is perfect. I notice from this forum that the issue with hinges is somewhat long-lived.

My gripe is now two-fold. (1) the hairline crack is growing with normal use of the laptop and (2) more importantly, having checked the warrant exclusions there is no mention of the word 'hinge'; I do not understand how this is not a valid warranty claim for defective workmanship. So a year after buying a reasonably expensive laptop it is now unusable because of a defective design / part of HP's choice and making.

Hi, thanks for the message. I've replied via PM and have included the details as well as the photographs I took when the original support case was opened. I've also attached HP's final 'resolution' that says, in effect, this isn't covered.

Cheers
