Hello, 

I am recently having this trouble, my laptop suddenly turns blue screen with a sad face and an error and restarting message. When I try to start the laptop a black screen with a error message - hard disk 1 (301) comes up. What is the problem and how to solve it?

Try again with other test. If newsly fail, then you needed replace the Hard Disk.

If have warranty, call to Centrer of Support and Assistance of HP, more near your home. If not, needed purchase.

Thank you for the answer. I think it is gone for good. How soon do I need to change the hard drive? I have my exams in 1 month, so too busy to go to change? Can I use a larger size hard drive, like 2 tb?

If you have already received the error code 301, it is very likely that you have or logical damage that can be repaired or physical damage, which will be accentuated as you use it. Try, save the important data in another external storage device by USB and use a recovery tool, to try to repair the sectors that may be damaged.
