Envy x360 15-aq273cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have an Envy x360 15-aq273cl came with 256 SSD hard disk. Just after a little over a year, the hard disk is almost full. I would like to upgrade the hard disk to at least 1 TB SSD. I  know that this laptop supports a dual hard disk configuration but not sure how to order the hard disk because the form factor is different (PciE/SATA and M.2). I actually would prefer the dual hard disk by adding another 1TB SSD so that i wont have to reinstall the OS and losing the current configuration. So my question is : If i want to preserve the current hard disk with OS on it, which SSB hard disk should I order, and in what interface/form factor. A reference to a part # would be great.

Thank you in advace.

Hi,

Basically, you have two options.

You can upgrade the fast 256GB M2 PCIe NVMe to a larger capacity drive (no limit) and reinstall the OS on the SSD (can give you a guide on how this is done)

Example of SSD:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-970-EVO-Plus-MZ-V7S1T0B/dp/B07MFZY2F2/ref=sr_1_1?crid=EDU3VAWWBAX4&ke...

On page 46 of service manual, you can see how to install the M2 SSD

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05747649

You could add a 2.5" SATA3 SSD.

Example:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078DPCY3T/ref=twister_B07P5VF5TL?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

You would need to buy the bracket (or you can use some strong double-sided tape) and you will need the cable.

Bracket part number 856789-001.

Cable  part number 856788-001

You can find in HP parts store

https://parts.hp.com/hpparts/Search_Results.aspx?mscssid=EE59648031AE43778682CC4DB842F7E9&SearchIn=P...

or try an online search

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=856788-001&i=electronics&ref=nb_sb_noss

On page 37 of the service manual, you can see how to insert the drive.

Hope it helps,

David

Thanks for great solution. I 'd probably go with the SATA3 add-on disk, less expensive and save time.
