The error Code is not translating so perhaps you copied it wrong but assuming it is the hard drive (almost 100% it is) then the hard drive needs replacement. Post back to discuss further if you wish to proceed. It is not as expensive or hard to do as you may fear. Are you under HP warranty?

Hard Disk 1 SMART Hard Drive Detects Imminent Failure
Replacement instructions begin on p. 27 here:
Not one of the easier models to service. Since you must replace the disk anyway I would recommend a solid state drive.
Happy to discuss further or accept as solution if this is the info you need.

Any help you can offer is much appreciated, I was assured that this computer would last 8 or more years when purchased. go figure, I guess I should have listened to that voice in my head that said it was wrong.
Never replaced a hard drive before, only thing I've ever done is replace RAM in a desk top.
Thank you!

The computer has not died....just the hard drive. Anyone who will guarantee you 8 years life on any electronic component will also try to sell you swampland in Florida. You have the Manual. I would replace the bad hard drive with a solid state drive like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-250GB-Internal-MZ-76E250B-AM/dp/B0781Z7Y3S?th=1
The linked site is offering the 500 gig for about $130 which is a great deal.
We can help with software reinstallation and you can likely recover most of the data off the old drive with an inexpensive usb to SATA adapter.

oh yes, I knew that the potential for hardware failures was always there but this rep told me that since I use my computer for work I would be better off paying the much higher price to get a computer that would have a longer lifespan.
you feel that replacing the hard drive is doable for someone who's not at all "techy"? I dont' mind giving it a try, I have had to purchase a second computer to continue work.
Would I be better off taking it in to a local repair shop?
Thanks for your help, it's very much appreciated

Up to you. Unfortunately you are looking at a pretty hefty bill to do it at a shop. I know since I used to help out at a small computer shop on weekends. We would get about $300 to replace a hard drive and reload Windows and save what data we could. Make it about $400 if you have them do an SSD. You can save $200+ in labor doing it yourself but not much incentive to do that if you have already purchased a new one.
