Hi,
When I turn on my laptop, only the HP Logo comes up followed by the "Automatic Repair" and then Black screen.
I ran the Systems Quick Test and it showed up a Hard Drive Short DST Check Failed.
I have the Failure Id as : 9K2BNM-80D9TC-XD7WMF-60XJ03
It is out of warranty now.
Can anyone please help me what I should do now ?
Best regards,
Soumya

Happy New Year, Soumya.
If you want a 1 TB hard drive, I would get one with the same, or faster RPM speed.
It doesn't have to be a Toshiba drive.
If you can live with 500 GB, you may want to consider purchasing a better performing, normally more reliable 2.5" solid state drive (SSD). They are more expensive, but they are worth it.

Hi, Soumya:
The error code reported, Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure, means the hard drive needs to be replaced and the operating system reinstalled.
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04653881
After you replace the hard drive, you can reinstall W10 for free as follows...
Use the Microsoft media creation tool at the link below to create a bootable W10 USB installer.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

Thanks a lot Paul.
Let me follow your advice and change the hard drive and install the W10.
I shall keep you updated how I go and will seek your advice if I get stuck.
Once again, thanks a lot for your help and advice. Most appreciated.

Soumya

Hi Paul,
Wishing you a very Happy New Year 2020.
I have opened the Hard Drive and it is a Toshiba 500GB/5400RPM 2.5" HDD.
I have seen a new Toshiba Hard Drive of 1TB/5200RPM 2.5" HDD.
Will this 1 TB HDD with a different RPM work with my HP Laptop ?
Best regards,
Soumya
