Hey so I’ve recently have gotten a hard drive disk error and it doesn’t let me start my computer all the way up all it does is go to a black screen with a bunch of options and I ran a test and the short dst failed I was wondering if just replacing the hard drive would make it work all over again?

Hi:

 

Yes, replacing the hard drive should resolve the problem.

 

You may want to consider replacing the 500 GB 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).

After you replace the drive, your notebook is supported by the HP cloud recovery tool which you can use on another PC running W7 64 bit or newer and using a 32 GB USB flash drive, create a bootable recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.
