Hi:

You are correct.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

HP Notebook PC (Intel) * Models: 15-ay000 – 15-ay099 * Models: 15-ay100 – 15-ay199HP 250 G5 Notebook...

If your notebook came with a 2.5" mechanical hard drive, you may want to consider replacing it with a better performing 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).

After you replace the drive, you can use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive.

Since you have to use the tool on another PC to create the installation media, you will need to enter your PC's product number in the tool's search window to create the recovery media.

Your PC's product number is: W4N09EA#ABZ

Thanks for your reply!

This notebook as an hts545050a7e680 disk that I will replace with an SSD drive.

I have read the techical manual and I have a question: this motherboard can also use M.2 disks but I think only Sata M.2 and not NMVE. I'm right?

Finally: on this notebook is installed Windows 10 pro, but the notebook originally has a Windows 8 operating system.

If I use the HP cloud recovery tool, it download Windows 8 or Windows 10? Pro or Home?

You're very welcome, Andrea.

The HP cloud recovery tool will install the original operating system that came with the notebook.

The cloud recovery tool should install Windows 10 according to the product specs.

No HP 250 G5 came with Windows 8 according to the specs.

The options were:

Windows 10 Home 64
Windows 10 Pro
Windows 7 Professional 64 (available through downgrade rights from Windows 10 Pro 64)
FreeDOS 1.2

Your notebook does not have a M.2 slot.

Only the notebooks that came with a M.2 SATA SSD from the factory have the M.2 slot and you are correct.

Notebooks that came with a M.2 slot only support SATA SSD's, not NVMe.

Cheers,

Paul
