My laptop is less than three years old and has suffered a hard disk failure. I cannot find a way to email HP to discuss if this the normal life expectancy of my product.

Any advice on contact routes or life expectancies appreciated

Thank you

Hi @Sofee-Cee,

Welcome to the HP support community.

I'm sorry to hear about your hard disk failure. While hard drives can fail over time, a failure within three years, especially if the laptop has been moderately used, can be frustrating.

Typical Hard Drive Life Expectancy

  • Standard HDDs: 3–5 years (average)
  • SSDs: Often last longer, but can still fail due to firmware or power issues

If your laptop is less than 3 years old, and especially if it's still under warranty or covered by HP Care Pack, you may be eligible for a free repair or replacement.

Please help us with your HP unit serial number or the product number in a private message for further assistance.
