Hard drive failure on short DST -

Failure ID MCBM5G-70K91T-MFPWXF-61C403

Product ID F0Q58UA#ABA

4 daughters age 6 to 10, this is their homework computer.  Purchased 1/2014.

Am I better off replacing hard drive or buying a new laptop?

Recommendations for replacement hard drive?

Thanks!

check my updated response...yes the drive you linked will work or the one I linked. Laptop SATA hard drives are generally generic interchangeable. A 7mm drive will work or a 9.5 mm (thickness).

A Windows 10 reinstall disk is a free download from Microsoft; you need no Key Code as in the old days. You can get drivers and original apps from here. Only problem you may have is with say Microsoft Office but if you have the Office 365 subscription that is also an easy reinstall.

It depends a bit on your skill with a screwdriver. A replacement hard drive will be $45-70, much less than the cheapest new computer.

It came with a 750 gig 7200 rpm SATA 2.5 inch laptop drive. Here is a straight up replacement from amazon.com:

Youtube video (very well done):

That I can handle.  Braiding hair, not so much.
So according to HP parts, it's a 7mm form factor drive.

Is there anything else I need to know - or will this cover it?

Thanks for your quick response!  I built a few personal computers in college, but no experience with laptops.

Good call on the Open Office...hard to compete with free.
