The hard drive from my hp 17-bs049dx crapped out. Can I take the hard from my older hp 15-ac157cl and put it in the newer 17 without losing the information on the hard drive?

Hi:
You can try it but there is no guarantee it will boot up and work.
You're putting a hard drive from a notebook with an Intel 5th gen core processor into one with an Intel 7th gen core processor.
As long as W10 can handle the difference, it should work.
You can expect the PC to restart once or twice.
You will need to install some drivers though from the 17-bs049dx support page.
