If anyone can help me I’d appreciate it. I gave my mom my old gaming laptop and it has an HDD in it but it never shows up. I have ran diagnostics and test and it passes every test but still won’t show in file manager? What should I do? It’s an HP Pavilion 15 AMD Ryazen 5 GTX 1050

Hi @NickL96,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that the HDD passes diagnostics but does not appear in File Explorer. Try these HP-supported steps in order:

Use HP Support Assistant

  • Check for driver, BIOS, and software updates. HP Support Assistant | HP® Support.

  • HP Support Assistant can help keep the PC up to date and improve device performance.

  • It is available on HP PCs and can be used to check updates and messages.

Check Windows recovery options if the issue started recently

  • Try Microsoft System Restore first if the drive used to appear before.

  • If needed, try Refresh before doing a full recovery.

  • HP Recovery is the most drastic option and can return the PC to factory condition, so back up files first.

If needed, reinstall drivers

  • HP Recovery Manager can be used to reinstall the original hardware drivers that came with the PC.

  • This may help if the issue is related to storage or system driver problems.

Back up important files before major recovery steps

  • HP recommends backing up files before recovery actions.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
